Mercedes has fully embraced electrification; the large, angular G-Class from the Cold War era is now exclusively electric.

According to Mercedes, the “G 580 with EQ Technology” is suited for hunters who like to approach their quarry stealthily. It should also be of interest to eco-off-roaders.

Constructed forty-five years ago for military use, the massive beast is now available with an all-electric drivetrain that consists of four independently regulated electric motors that add up to a massive 859 lb-ft of torque and 579 horsepower. While still powerful, that horsepower is less than that of the Tesla Cybertruck or the GMC Hummer EV.

The electric setup is overwhelming, tipping the scales at 6801 pounds which, in spite of the craft’s huge control and torque, really moderates its 0-60 mph time by four tenths of a moment compared to the current, gas-fed AMG form, hitting the stamp in 4.6 seconds.

But whereas so much engine yield can be fulfilling in a straight line, the G is still at its best prevailing off-road challenges. To that conclusion the modern G-Class sports 9.8 inches of ground clearance, an approach point of 32 degrees, a takeoff of 30.7, and water fording capability of 33.5 inches profound. It can climb a incline up to 45 degrees, navigate a incline up to 35 degrees, and break over a bump of up to 20.3 degrees.

A restrictive carbon-fiber composite undertray includes security when doing any of the over. Low-range off-road equip decrease permits for a slither mode. The “EG” too sports virtual differential locks much appreciated to its four autonomously controlled electric engines. By changing the torque request from each engine, you’ll be able do everything from torque vectoring to G-Turn, G-Steering, and the cleverly off-road slither work. What are those?

Previous owners of the G will be familiar with the inside.

If the car is on dirt, the G-Turn can rotate the G in place.

Mercedes says, “This can be useful when driving off-road in addition to looking amazing.” For instance, if there is a barrier in the way that prevents you from moving forward. When necessary, the four independently propelled wheels can rotate the car to the left or right.

Unfortunately, it won’t do that for the entire day—just two full rotations.

By carefully regulating the drive torque at each wheel separately, G-Steering can reduce the turning radius off-road, allowing the vehicle to circle around its inside rear wheel.

“We made every effort to ensure that the G-Wagen remained the G-Wagen.”

The brilliantly off-road slither work is like slope descent—or ascent—control, keeping up a set speed of many mph in moo extend, like journey control for off-roading.

Those are fair a few of the highlights of the modern G-Class.

Separated from the drivetrain, much of the rest of the vehicle is the same as the gas-fed adaptation, which remains in generation, by the way. The G 580 with EQ Innovation rides on a stepping stool outline with free front suspension and a De Dion-style strong bar raise pivot. Mercedes says the four electric engines are “located close the wheels,” but we weren’t permitted near sufficient to the one vehicle appeared to see precisely how close.

They are not center engines, we know that. At one point Mercedes says, “The four engines are coordinates within the stepping stool frame—two in each lodging at the front and raise axles. These are driven through brief pivot shafts, meaning the raise electric engines can moreover be blasted to the chassis.”

MERCEDES: Here it is in beige.

Each engine makes 145 hp, or 579 hp add up to. The person control of each engine makes this the primary arrangement generation Mercedes with person wheel drive.

The “torsion-resistant” battery case makes a difference solidify the vehicle’s structure as well as ensure the 116-kWh lithium-ion battery. That control source is orchestrated interior the case in two levels in 12 cell modules between three cooling levels. AC charging goes through an 11-kW onboard charger whereas Level 3 DC charging can run as tall as 200 kW, expecting you’ll discover a charger working at the level.

Whereas it says the battery is “high voltage,” Mercedes did not say how tall. In other Mercedes EVs, “high voltage” implies an 800-volt electric vehicle charging framework engineering.

Regenerative braking has five modes for most extreme effectiveness.

From the outside, it resembles every previous G-Class car in the lineup.

Michael Scheib of Mercedes stated, “We did everything in our power to keep it that way. The G-Wagen is the G-Wagen.”

As near as we could get to the New G was this. The original rapper Travis Scott performed on top of it for thirty minutes on the Benz’s roof. Bradley Cooper, George Russell, an F1 pilot, and at least one Kardashian were also present!
From a distance of perhaps fifty feet, or perhaps even more, we were able to observe a lone G 580. It had a spoiler lip on the roof strip, a redesigned A-pillar trim, flared rear wheel arches with air curtains, and improved interior aeroacoustics. not very optimised, but.

Scheib stated, “We didn’t sacrifice aerodynamics too much or it wouldn’t be a G-Class anymore.”

Mercedes’ all-electric G.

The first 2025 G-Class will only be offered in Edition One trim, which includes blue brake callipers, a square spare wheel cover, exclusive exterior colours, and an insert of blue trim strip in the external moulding, among other things. The black panel radiator grille is an optional addition to the conventional radiator grille with four horizontal louvres.

Along with aerodynamically optimised 20-inch AMG 10-spoke alloy wheels in high-gloss black and tinted external lighting elements, the Edition One comes standard with the AMG Line and Night Package.

Expect to wait a while for yours, given the popularity of the gas-powered G-Class. Range, price, and delivery dates are still up in the air.
